Invacare Europe strengthen involvement in Invacare World Team Cup

Press release : 24 January 2008.

Invacare Europe is delighted to announce increased involvement in the Invacare World Team Cup, the largest team competition for wheelchair tennis players. The competition will be held in Cremona, Italy, from June 9 to 15 later this year, taking place in two local tennis clubs, with a total of 14 clay courts.

About the Invacare World Team Cup

Established in 1985, the Invacare World Team Cup was created as a fun tournament, which took place prior to the US Open. Initially a US-only event, the competition rapidly gained momentum until it moved outside the USA in 1992. Equivalent to the Davis Cup, the tournament is backed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and has carried the Invacare name for the past 12 years.

Greater support

The Invacare World Team Cup is an extremely important event for Invacare. The flagship event perfectly embodies the company motto 'Yes, you can' and promotes an active and positive lifestyle. Invacare Europe is thrilled to be able to offer greater levels of support and more sponsorship opportunities. A brand new logo has been created for the Cup and will be used this year. The logo offers a fresher, more contemporary feel which reflects the dynamic nature of the game today.

This year, 34 countries, 300 coaches and players and 150 additional guests will take part in the Invacare World Team Cup. Other activities will run during the week-long event, including workshops, product launches and a symposium on 'sports & disability'.

Guests welcomed in Italian style

Cremona will provide an appealing backdrop to the Cup; the historic Lombardy town boasts a distinguished history of violin-making and is famous for producing the celebrated Stradivarius string instruments.

Ambassador Rainer Küschall

The Invacare ambassador this year will be Mr Rainer Küschall. Rainer became quadriplegic after a swimming accident yet continued his passion for sports, going on to win 21 Paralympic medals at 7 Paralympic games. Rainer later founded Küschall AG, creating revolutionary, light wheelchairs. Küschall AG is a daughter company of Invacare and Rainer will speak at this year's symposium.
